Situated at Hemel
Hempstead, the UK sales HQ has invested substantially
in applying Radio Frequency ID to address asset control, security
and visitor management issues common to most corporate users.
Initial consultation revealed a desire to increase awareness of
existing IT equipment. However, equipment location was not the
only requirement - information such as full specification, maintenance
history, financial records and customised reporting were
specified. All criteria were readily matched by implementing a
simple passive solution based on external 'credit card' tags,
handheld audit scanners and Tag & Trace application
software.
With an
effective asset management system now implemented, consideration was
turned toward maximising on site security through monitored door
control and a move toward automated asset monitoring and issue. In
its capacity as UK sales HQ, the site also has a high volume of
visitors for which an ID card management system was required.
Key objectives for a fully
integrated system included a simple access control procedure
through-out the building (by presenting personalised ID card),
the ability to present this ID and authorise the issue of company
property (such as Laptops) and a simple effective way for the
receptionist to issue temporary ID to visitors for predefined access.
In the surrounding car park
areas and entrance atrium, CCTV was deployed to provide a high
level of site visibility and reception video access. Hands Free barrier operation for company vehicles
was overcome by installing active tags which transmit to receivers
within the boom gate.
An extensive study of Epsons's requirements coupled with Climarque's
knowledge of leading edge and breaking technology resulted in the
seamless integration of a system which not only met but surpassed
the original specification in all areas.
