Why can't I open this file?
Explanation
You probably do not have an appropriate reader
installed on your system.
Most of our documentation is in Adobe
Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF). To read these files you will
need Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 or greater (see below).
Presentations are in Microsoft PowerPoint format (PPS). To read
these files you will need a copy of Microsoft PowerPoint 97 or
greater, or the free PowerPoint viewer (see below). PowerPoint is
part of Microsoft Office.
In addition, many larger files are also
available in a compressed form to save you time when downloading.
Opening these files requires an appropriate compression program,
such as WinZip. A free 21 day trial version of WinZip is available
(see below).
Adobe Acrobat Reader (PDF
files)
Adobe Acrobat Reader is free to download and use. To download
Acrobat Reader for Windows, go to: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html
For versions of Acrobat Reader for other operating systems (e.g.
Macintosh, UNIX) please use:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/main.html
...and look for "Acrobat Reader".
OR contact your systems administrator.
Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer
(PPS files)
If you do not have Microsoft Office or PowerPoint, you can get a
free PowerPoint viewer from Microsoft. This PowerPoint viewer only
supports Microsoft Windows 95, 98 or ME, Windows NT 3.5 or greater,
and Windows 2000. To download PowerPoint viewer, go to:
http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/Ppview97.aspx
...and follow the instructions therein.
OR contact your system administrator.
WinZip (any file
listed as 'Zipped')
Note that WinZip only decompresses the file. You will still need the
appropriate viewer installed on your system. For example, a file
listed as 'Zipped PDF' requires WinZip and Acrobat Reader
before it can be read. WinZip only supports Microsoft Windows 3.1
and above.
To download a trial version of WinZip, go to:
http://www.winzip.com/ddchomea.htm
...and follow the instructions therein.
OR contact your system administrator.
